Kayak, Cycle and Walk Tour - A Tasmanian Adventure: Over the six stunning days of this Tasmanian adventure you will travel through the spectacular East Coast region. This will combine a combination of vehicle supported cycling (3 days). Kayaking (1 day), and walking (2 days). What can you expect from this trip? You'll be kayaking in Coles Bay beneath the Hazards. Walking in the Freycinet National Park to view Wineglass Bay. Walk to the summit Mount Bishop & Clerk on Maria Island. You'll cycle through sleepy fishing villages and along stunning coastal stretches of the East Coast. Try your hand at wildlife spotting with a chance to see a Tasmanian Devil in the wild.

Over six wonderful days you will cycle amongst lush green rural landscapes. Past vineyards and thriving orchards. Along stunning coastline, and down deep forested valleys.

You will kayak on the beautiful waters of Freycinet National Park. Plus walk to one of the world’s most iconic beaches – Wineglass Bay. Spend 2 days on Maria Island exploring world class scenery and extremely friendly wildlife. A drive to the summit of Kunanyi (Mt Wellington) is the fitting conclusion to this fun filled trip.

This tour caters to a wide range of fitness levels. You will have the constant support of guides and a vehicle. So you can complete as many or as few kilometres as you please.

Each day we make the most of the great outdoors. Each evening is spent celebrating and relaxing over a delicious 3-course meal.

Your Trip Itinerary

Day 1 – Pick up in Launceston, Cycle the East Coast to Bicheno. Cycling distance: 46km
Day 2 – Cycle to Freycinet National Park, walk to Wineglass Bay Lookout. Cycling distance: 38km (Bicheno to Freycinet). Walking distance: 4–8km. Walking time: 2–4 hour
Day 3 – Kayak in Freycinet National Park, cycle south to Triabunna. Kayaking time: 2.5 hours. Cycling distance: 23km.
Day 4 – Ferry to Maria Island, walking on the Island. Walking distance: 4–8km. Walking time: 2–4 hours
Day 5 – Walking on Maria Island National Park. Walking distance: 12–15km. Walking time: 6–8 hours
Day 6 – Maria Island to Hobart, walk on Kunanyi (Mt Wellington). Walking time: 1–3 hours.

Your Accommodation:

The first 3 nights of this tour are spent in clean, comfortable multi‑share accommodation. This tour is on a twin‑share basis so if you are an individual traveller we will accommodate you with another traveller of the same sex. The final two nights of this tour are spent camping on Maria Island. There are rainwater tanks, toilets and showers (gold coin donation) near the campsite. We sleep on comfortable inflatable mattresses in 2‑person wilderness tents.

Bicycles supplied:

  • The bicycles we provide are high quality Avanti ‘Giro’ hybrid touring bikes.
  • An Avanti ‘Discovery’ Low Electric Bike can be hired at an additional cost.

  • This trip involves cycling, kayaking and walking and a reasonable level of fitness is required.
  • Daily activity is between 5‑6 hours, but be prepared for variable weather conditions which can impact the timing and comfort of the activities.

Numbers and Availability:

  • There will be 5–12 participants per trip.
  • Tours run from October – April.

What you carry on the trip:

For each section of the trip your guide will detail exactly what you will need to carry. This varies each day depending on weather and activities, but the following gives you a general idea:

  • CYCLING – You will carry a small day‑pack with your camera, some snacks and your drink bottle. The vehicle carries the rest of the luggage.
  • KAYAKING – The sea kayaks have store hatches and you will be given a dry‑bag for your camera and drink bottle. Your kayak guides will provide snacks and hot drinks.
  • WALKING – We hand cart all luggage onto Maria Island therefore we ask that you take ‘only what you need’ in a pack of around 8–10 kilograms. When walking on the island you will carry your day pack with just what is needed for the walk: raincoat, camera, water, snacks etc.
