Located on the wonderful beach-front of Bonnie Vale Picnic Grounds at Bundeena is your base for a great day out. Go for a dip in the sheltered clear waters of Simpson’s Bay, make sand castles on the beach, relax in the grassy picnic grounds or bring along your fishing gear and catch your lunch! Then you can cook up a storm using the provided gas BBQ facilities.
Kayaks are available for hire giving you the opportunity to explore the river and park at your own pace. We have a range of single, double and triple enclosed and sit-on-top kayaks suitable for beginners to advanced paddlers. The kayaks have plenty of storage space so you can pack a huge picnic lunch and head out for a day of adventure.

- Prices shown is for a Single Kayak for 1 to 4 hours or a daily rate.
What can I expect to see kayaking at Bundeena?
The departure point at Bundeena is a coastal bay with a stunning stretch of sandy beach (great for swimming). Venture further up the river into the National Park and you’ll leave civilization behind. Here the river takes on a new look with isolated creeks, mangrove ecosystems, secluded picnic spots, overhanging cliffs and of course the majestic towering trees of the National Park.
What do I Bring kayaking?
Hat, sunscreen, sunnies, water bottle, towel, swimming costume, change of clothes, booties/waterproof sandals, waterproof bag and thermals/wind jacket are recommended on chilly days and during winter months.
What days can we hire a kayak?
Kayak hire is available Wednesday to Sunday, between sunrise and sunset, excluding Christmas Day. Bookings are essential and are subject to availability.
I have never kayaked before. Is this a problem?
No – just as long as you can swim and in reasonably fit condition, then kayaking shouldn’t be a problem. You may also like to book into on of our Learn to Kayak Sessions where you will learn basic kayaking techniques and kayaking safety.

Will I be provided with a safety vest?
Yes! It is a condition of hire that you wear the vest at all times whilst on the water.
- You will be required to sign a waiver on the day, prior to participating in this experience.
- We provide waterproof containers so you can bring your camera and it won’t get wet! Maps are provided.
Please note that all participants in kayak hire MUST be competent swimmers.
