The Central Coast encompasses an area 50–100 km north of Sydney via the F3 Freeway. Just over an hour from Sydney, the Central Coast is one of Sydney’s favourite weekend playgrounds.
This region has large areas of protected bushland to explore, you can take a kayak tour along the Hawkesbury River and enjoy the drama of sheer sandstone cliffs and rainforest. Hire a houseboat and leave the rest of the world behind. Go abseiling, horse riding, surfing and scuba diving, mountain-bike riding, kite surfing, sailing and, of course the Central Coast offers great estuary and off shore fishing.
For bushwalkers, Gosford offers a wealth of variety on uncrowded trails that lead to secluded glens and waterfalls, coastal cliffs, ridges covered in trees, rainforest and open bush, sheltered lagoons and quiet estuaries.
The four-wheel drive opportunities of the Wyong hinterlands consist of brief ‘spur trails’ that branch off well-maintained dirt road and some of the diversions are doozies, particularly if it’s been raining. (Experience and weather conditions should be considered).
With its golden beaches for surfing, swimming, diving or walking, the Central Coast is a great weekend escape or an ideal holiday destination.
Regular trains also run from Sydney to Gosford. Allow one and a half hours to travel to Gosford from Sydney via the F3. This is out of peak hour.
