Hot Air Ballooning over the Flinders Ranges

What could be better than this! A 60 minute hot air balloon ride in South Australia’s Flinders Ranges with the beautiful and complex landforms of the Wilpena Pound area as your backdrop. This is a sight that can only be truly appreciated from the air. Add romance and a blend of adventure and tranquility to an aerial viewing of the Flinders by experiencing it from a hot air balloon.

Passengers will get to know their pilot, crew and fellow adventurers during the short pre-dawn drive to the launch site of the day. You can get involved with the set-up of the balloon or stand back and take photographs as the balloon is inflated and made ready to lift gently above the countryside.

Once in the air, the balloon floats as a perfect viewing platform with no turbulence, vibration or noise – other than the occasional reassuring roar of the burner.  Passengers will travel gently across the vast expanse of the Australian outback – keeping an eye out for native wildlife – and watch the morning light bathe the hills and ramparts of the Pound.  

After your hot air balloon returns safely to land and some fun packing the balloon back into its bag there will be a light breakfast of exotic slices, muesli, cheese and biscuits accompanied by sparkling Australian wine or fruit juice.

A souvenir Flight Certificate will be issued to commemorate the occasion.

WHERE DO WE MEET

• We meet at Rawnsley Park Station on the main Wilpena road 35km north of Hawker.
• Meeting is 1 hour before sunrise – the exact time will be confirmed after booking.
• Passengers will be with us for approximately 4 to 5 hours depending upon where we land and will be driven back to Rawnsley Park from the landing site.

WHAT TO WEAR AND BRING

It is dusty in the bush. Suitable clothing, enclosed shoes and a hat are recommended.  It is no colder in the balloon than on the ground but it can be chilly before sunrise so a light jacket may be appropriate.

CANCELLATION POLICY

• clients who cancel their ballooning flight within 24 hours of departure
• are a "no show" on the morning of the tour
  
• or who suffer "cold feet" on the launch field ...
  

... will not be given a refund. Where circumstances are beyond a client’s control, consideration will be given. Refunds are at the discretion of the operator.

WEATHER CONDITIONS

Balloon flights can be cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. The operator will endeavor to rebook the passengers for another date that suits their schedule. If this is not possible, passengers will receive a full refund.

FITNESS LEVELS

A reasonable level of fitness is required to participate in our hot air ballooning tours. Participants must be able to climb into the balloon basket & stand upright for the duration of the flight.

AGE RESTRICTIONS

• Children must be 6 years old, or stand at 1.4 metres tall.
• Children 5 years & younger are not permitted.
• Children prices are applicable from 6 – 16 years of age.
• Children must be accompanied by an adult.

NUMBERS

The flight will operate with a minimum of two person. The Flinders Ranges balloon carries a maximum of 10 passengers.  There will only be one flight each morning.
