As Queenslands capital, Brisbane has its very own savvy downtown precinct, which serves as a destination in its own right or as the perfect hub for exploring spectacular Moreton Bay, beaches, or many regional hinterland attractions located inside a leisurely 60 minute drive. Brisbanes active yet relaxed way of life fits perfectly with the plethora of things to see and do in and around the city.
Downtown Whether your passion is for our great outdoors like beaches and parklands, tempting menus, happening nightlife, savvy shopping, pursuits of the cultural kind or all of the above, youll find it all downtown.
Theres simply no better place in Queensland to indulge in some serious retail therapy. Start in the Queen Street Mall almost a kilometre of shoppers paradise. Then stroll along to the Citys chic shopping strips and arcades before heading to The Valley where youll find the edgiest young designs around. South Banks new Arbour on Grey should be next on your shopping list. Downtowns outdoor markets are a weekend pleasure not to be missed. If you cant find what youre shopping for in downtown Brisbane, it simply doesnt exist!
Youll need at least a month to check out all of downtowns nightlife options, from bars and pubs to nightclubs and live music venues. Were not known as Brisvegas for nothing!
No need to go hungry. The downtown dining menu is hearty and satisfying and some of Australias most awarded chefs can be found in the kitchens downtown. Just choose your cuisine, budget, view, pace, style and flavour.
When it comes to culture, its all in a days play musicals, live theatre, galleries, museums, even guided walking tours of downtowns historical sites.
So Much So Close And while there's plenty to keep you going for the next three months in downtown, you should also spread your wings a little. Within 60 minutes of downtown Brisbane, so much is so close: from beaches and islands, to hinterland and country, to parks and wildlife just to name a few options.
By the Bay - taste and inhale the seafood, sandy beaches and salt air at the seaside escapes of Redcliffe, Scarborough, Shorncliffe and Sandgate, all within 30 minutes of downtown Brisbane. Idyllic island escapes are just a ferry-ride away, from Couran Cove Resort on South Stradbroke Island to Moreton Island's Tangalooma Wild Dolphin Resort. Less than idyllic, but well worth a trip across the bay, is Brisbane's own Alcatraz - St Helena Island. Visit Bribie Island, Moreton Island and North Stradbroke Island.
Rainforest, Hinterland & Country - nature's best is on Brisbane's doorstep. Experience a taste of rural life on a working cattle station in the scenic Lockyer Valley or Boonah Shire. Bushwalk, rock-climb, fish, four-wheel drive and horse-ride your way through authentic country towns within 60 minutes drive from downtown Brisbane.
