Tiger snake attacks teenage bushwalker near Melbourne

A 15-year-old Melbourne boy is recovering in hospital after twice being bitten by a tiger snake while bushwalking. He was hiking with a friend in the Kinglake National Park north-east of the city when the tiger snake struck around 12.30pm (AEST) on Sunday. Read the rest of this entry »

Aussies climb to the top of the world

Sydney’s Daily Telegraph reported this morning than an Australian climbing team has conquered Mt Everest. In near perfect wearther, climbers Rob Jackson, David Chiew and Mark Sheen reached the 8850m summit yesterday (5th June 2007). The group was blessed with excellent conditions and no clouds or wind.

Expedition leader Duncan Chessell said Mr Chiew and Mr Jackson had overcome pneumonia to gain the summit. The climb put Mr Jackson in the elite group of climbers to have conquered the seven summits, the highest peaks on the seven continents.

Scuba Diving on the Tasman Peninsula

About 70 minutes drive from the Tasmanian capital city of Hobart is the Tasman Peninsula. European settlement on the peninsula commenced with the establishment of a convict timber station in 1830. By 1840 over 2,000 prisoners and staff were accommodated at various locations on the peninsula with the main prison complex at Port Arthur.
