lot41.jpgExciting news! Sydneysiders James Castrission, 25, and Justin Jones, 24 two Australian kayakers who have been paddling across the Tasman made up time last night and are expected to arrive in New Zealand tomorrow. The is great news for two guys who have given their all to their dreams of crossing the ditch from Foster on the New South Wales north coast to New Plymouth New Zealand.

Last night there were fears they may not make it to New Plymouth by tomorrow as hoped, after wind and currents slowed them down. But after paddling more than 3,200 kilometres during the past 60 days they are on track to reach New Zealand exactly two months after setting out.

A spokesman for the trip, Alan McDonald, said strong currents had helped propel the two Australians towards land overnight.

“When they were crossing the continental shelf they caught a current that runs towards New Plymouth,” he said.Louisa Jones, 28, the sister of Justin, said the pair had sighted land and only had 60 kilometres left.

“I think they decided they can sleep when they get here,” she said.

“Everyone is very excited.”
