Gore launches the ultimate in protection for adventure pros

Gore-tex LogoMEDIA RELEASE: Just as adventurers push the boundaries of human achievement, fabric technology must also explore new frontiers to create hard-wearing materials that don’t compromise on weight, comfort and functionality. In its pursuit for perfection, Gore has moved closer to that goal with the development of its latest fabric - GORE-TEX® Pro Shell with patent-pending Gore Micro Grid Backer Technology.

GORE-TEX® Pro Shell

Engineered with the most rugged, most breathable, durably waterproof and windproof fabrics, new GORE-TEX® Pro Shell meets the rigorous demands of serious adventure enthusiasts and sets a new benchmark in high performance outerwear.

Gore’s latest development, Gore Micro Grid Backer Technology is a revolutionary internal backer unique to 3-layer GORE-TEX® Pro Shell.

The secret behind this breakthrough fabric is an exclusive weave design that is extremely breathable, abrasion resistant and lightweight, offering uncompromising comfort for wearers participating in activities like mountaineering, rock climbing, ice climbing and expeditions.

Key features of GORE-TEX® Pro Shell with Gore Micro Grid Backer Technology:

Increased ruggedness; Lighter weight; Extreme breathability; Uncompromised comfort; Clean seam lines; Reduced internal abrasion

Lighter weight

The new 15 denier woven backer fabric and use of low profile seam sealing tape means GORE-TEX® Pro Shell jackets are now more than 65 grams lighter than an equivalent jacket made with 40 denier tricot backer.

Unparalleled comfort

With its clean lines and smoother, more flexible finish Gore Micro Grid Backer Technology is specifically engineered to provide superior comfort on the inside for the wearer. Jackets made using this new technology glide effortlessly over base layers to maximise freedom of movement.

Durably waterproof yet extremely breathable

In order to ensure the new fabric lives up to the GORE-TEX® GUARANTEED TO KEEP YOU DRY® promise, all new GORE-TEX® Pro Shell garments first must pass the ‘Extreme Wet Weather’ test in the GORE-TEX® Rain Room. The new fabric also endures a procedure specially engineered to scrutinise durable waterproofness.

The result - new GORE-TEX® Pro Shell is not only extremely breathable, it is completely waterproof even after more than 500 hours of flexing and abrasion when wet.

Tested by the best to be the best

Andrew LockOne of Australia’s leading high altitude mountaineers and member of the GORE-TEX® Test Team, Andrew Lock, says GORE-TEX® Pro Shell is the only choice for serious outdoor enthusiasts.

“From a mountaineer’s perspective, weight is critical. We look for every possible way to save a few grams so lightweight technology is the only option,” says Andrew.

After testing a new GORE-TEX® Pro Shell jacket on a recent summit quest in the Himalayas, he was impressed by the performance of the new technology.

“Snowstorms, rain, high winds and plummeting temperatures have often left lightweight fabrics wanting,” says Andrew. “For me, GORE-TEX® Pro Shell is the perfect balance of protection, comfort and weight.”

Availability

The new 3-layer GORE-TEX® Pro Shell jackets with Gore Micro Grid Backer Technology will be available from the following brand partners in Australia and New Zealand in September 07: Mountain Hardware, Lowe Alpine, Arc-teryx, Mammut, Berghaus, Outdoor Research (NZ only).
