World’s Top Vert Stars make for Gravity

GG-VF-Logo.gifAfter notching an impressive third at last weekend’s LG Actions Sports Inline Vert Championship in Texas, Australian pro inline skater Shane Yost has clinched his world number three ranking and next month heads to sun laden Western Australia to make his debut at the 2006 Gravity Games H2o, presented by Vodafone.

The 29-year-old 2006 Australian Inline Champion will join a host of the world’s most talented vert athletes from the disciplines of Inline, Skate and BMX and create what will be a stunning display of death defying action on show at this year’s premier action sports, lifestyle and music festival in the state’s capital from December 7 – 10.

Returning to Perth’s spectacular shoreline for the third consecutive year, an anticipated crowd of over 50,000 spectators will flock to the purpose-built Gravity Games H2o site in McCallum Park, Victoria Park.

A series of demos will be expertly commentated by Vert MCs Mick Watkins and Brant Hirst. Demonstrations will take place on the Southern Hemisphere’s largest vert ramp on the stunning foreshore of Perth’s Swan River.

Yost brings to this year’s Gravity Games H2o an air of incredible accomplishment as the only skater to have landed a forward 1260 and the first to pull a switch 1080 – two of the most daring and difficult tricks in inline circles.

Joining the ‘Tasmanian Devil’ at this year’s Gravity Games H2o, presented by Vodafone, are Australian Vert pro skaters Renton Millar and Trevor Ward who nabbed second and third respectively at this year’s Asian X Games. Their sport’s International representation will comprise two of Europe’s best skateboarders; Red Bull athletes Jocke Olson of Sweden and Germany’s Juergen Horrwarth.

Also making his debut at the 2006 Gravity Games H2o is Australian BMX powerhouse Tim Wood whose latest vert win was at the 2006 Australian BMX Games. Wood will be joined by Spanish BMX legend Eduardo Terreros, who has added this year’s event to his world touring program. Terreros is also part of the Gravity Games H2o Red Bull athlete contingent.

The picturesque Swan River will again play host to a wild display of some of Australia’s best water medal events including Wakeboarding, Thundercat racing and new to the 2006 medal event schedule, Jetski Racing.

While back on dry ground, other Gravity Games H2o demo acts will include three of Australia’s top Freestyle Motocross (FMX) riders, Robbie Maddison, Michael (Chuck) Norris and Matt Schubring, and for the first time there will also be an impressive program of Mountain Bike Trials.

Adding to the star-filled line-up at this year’s Gravity Games H2o, Australia’s number one Bowl Skater Corbin Harris will be judging a number of young Perth locals as they test their talent at the Drug Aware Gravity Challenge Bowl competition at McCallum Skate Park. Competitions will be held for Skate, Inline and BMX in two age groups with great prizes up for grabs.

As part of the 2006 Gravity Games, presented by Vodafone, the Gravity G-Fest will kick off on Thursday December 7 featuring an exciting band line-up including US punk sensation Aiden, Aussie bands Kisschasy, Gyroscope, Parkway Drive, The Getaway Plan and New Zealand outfit Good Night Nurse. Tickets are $44 plus booking fee (go to www.bocsticketing.com.au for details).
