Media Release: The craziest, mad capped and keenly sought after snow weekend – the Coca-Cola Wild Winter Weekend – will be held on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 August 2006.

Once again, host Perisher Blue is fine-tuning the slopes, creating the berms and getting things ready for the 18th hosting of the iconic Coca-Cola Wild Winter Weekend event. And while Perisher Blue prepares the snow, skiers and boarders have been in training and are busy waxing down their skis and boards to prepare for the most anticipated snow sports event of the season.

This year, competitors will be vying for a share of $16,500 prize money up for grabs over four spectacular events.

DAY 1: SATURDAY 5 AUGUST, FROM 11AM – EVENT 1

The Coca-Cola Wild Winter Weekend will kick off with the world famous downhill demolition race – Coca-Cola Dash for Cash. The Dash is usually held on the

Olympic Run and down into the Sun Valley Bowl at Perisher Valley. As always, skiers and boarders are tested in this grueling, limited rules, no holds barred event.

The Dash for skiers commences at 11am followed by the boarders at 11.30am with the competition limited to 40 competitors (for each event). For on-snow spectators, there are many sites enabling good viewing. Both Coca-Cola Dash for Cash events take approximately five to 10 minutes.

COCA-COLA DASH FOR CASH TOTAL PRIZE POOL: $7,000

DAY 1: SATURDAY 5 AUGUST, 1.30PM – EVENT 2

The second event – Coca-Cola Leap for Loot – is held on Front Valley at Perisher Blue and is a big air event for skiers and boarders, where competitors are judged on their take offs, amplitude and landings. Excellent for on-snow or on-foot spectators, this event can be viewed from the deck at the Valley Inn or around the bottom of the staging area. The competition lasts for approximately 90 minutes and is limited to 60 competitors with the top four contenders walking away with some cash.

COCA-COLA LEAP FOR LOOT TOTAL PRIZE POOL: $3,000

DAY 2: SUNDAY 6 AUGUST, 10AM – EVENT 3

The Coca-Cola In the Pipe event is held in the Perisher Valley Half Pipe, located directly in front of the Perisher Valley Hotel. This event features skiers and boarders riding the massive Perisher Blue Half Pipe where participants (limited to 60) are judged on their entry, aerials, landings and the number of times they ‘hit’ the pipe wall during their run. There are many vantage points on either side of the Pipe for both on-snow and on-foot spectators. The event lasts for approximately 90 minutes and the top eight competitors will win a share of the prize money.

COCA-COLA IN THE PIPE TOTAL PRIZE POOL: $2,500

DAY 2: SUNDAY 6 AUGUST, FROM 12.30PM – EVENT 4

The final event in the Coca-Cola Wild Winter Weekend lives up to the ‘Wild’ aspect – it’s the ever-popular Coca-Cola Jump for Cash, which offers fun for both entrants and spectators alike. Competitors attempt to win prizes for their distances reached, fancy dress outfits and contraptions as they all land and splash in the icy pool of water at the end of the Jump. On-foot or on-snow spectators can expect lots of fun, splashes, colourful people, interesting costumes and crazy contraptions! The Jump for Cash site is directly below the Sundeck Hotel, alongside the Perisher Half Pipe and takes approximately 60 minutes to complete.

COCA-COLA JUMP FOR CASH TOTAL PRIZE POOL: $4,000

If you’re interested to take part in the Coca-Cola Wild Winter Weekend, entry fees for each event vary between $30 and $40. To fill out an entry form, log onto: http://www.perisherblue.com.au/winter/events/pdf/www_entry_form_2006.pdf. For the events held on Saturday 5 August, entries must be in by 4.30pm Friday 4 August. The cut off for entry into the In the Pipe event is 5.00pm Saturday 5 August, while you can register for the Jump for Cash on the day up until the event start time. 

All the 2006 Coca-Cola Wild Winter Weekend action will be recorded for television to be broadcast in August on Channel 9’s Wide World of Sports program and later in the year on Fox Sports.
