Bring out your tricks at the Sprite Sessions 06

sprite-sessions.gifMedia Release: It’s that time of year again. Although the snow has started to fall and the weather’s become cool, the competition will soon to be hotting up on the NSW snowfields when Thredbo hosts the eleventh annual Sprite Sessions event.

Prepare all your tricks and gear up for the 2006 action, which kicks off on Monday 7 August until Wednesday 9 August. Enter and give it a shot – you could get your hands on some of the $30,000 up for grabs!

DAY 1: MONDAY 7 AUGUST – SPRITE RAILS

Starting the Sessions is the Sprite Rails event for skiers and boarders. The eliminations consist of two rail runs per competitor with the top 20 men and 10 women boarders along with the top 10 men and five women skiers qualifying for the finals conducted in a jam session format. If the judges like your choice moves, you could be leaving the slopes with Rails glory.

  • Official training: Intermediate Terrain Park, from 9.00am
  • Briefing: Intermediate Terrain Park, 9.15am
  • Eliminations: Intermediate Terrain Park, from 10.30am
  • Finals: Under lights at Friday Flat! From 6.00pm

Number of Competitors

  • Elimination round limited to 100 competitors
  • Finals limited to 45 competitors

DAY 2: TUESDAY 8 AUGUST – SPRITE ZERO BIG AIR

Aim high in the Sprite Sessions’ second event – the Sprite Zero Big Air competition where skiers and boarders are judged on the extraordinary heights they reach. The eliminations consist of two rounds where from each round the top five snowboard and skier men as well as the top three snowboard and skier women will make it through to the finals. They’ll each have two jumps with the highest scored jump counted for each finalist.

  • Official training: Between Antons & Sponars T-Bars, from 10.00am

  • Finals: Between Antons & Sponars T-Bars, from 2.00pm

DAY 3: WEDNESDAY 9 AUGUST – SPRITE RIDER CROSS

It’s serious stuff with the Sprite Rider Cross event for skiers and boarders, as the event is sanctioned by Ski & Snowboard Australia (SSA) and carries national and international (FIS) ranking points. Competitors can enter as either professional or amateur, however to acquire FIS points and be considered for national ranking, competitors must enter the pro category. To enter as pro, competitors must be members of and registered with SSA, which can be organised online at: www.skiandsnowboard.org.au – follow the links to membership and registration.

The Sprite Rider Cross competition includes a single elimination time trial with the top 32 men and 16 women snowboarders and 16 men and eight women skiers making their way to the elimination finals. Staged with heats of four competitors, the elimination finals seek out the top two competitors from each heat and round until a group of four has been reached for the finals.

  • Briefing: Bottom of Thredbo Rider Cross Course, 9.45am
  • Time trials commence: Thredbo Rider Cross Course, 10.00am
  • Elimination finals: Thredbo Rider Cross Course, from 2.00pm

  • Eliminations limited to 200 competitors

If you want to get your hands on even more cash, there’s an extra incentive – $1,000 will be awarded to the overall Sprite Sessions skiing and boarding champions.

Get organised if you want to compete – it costs $34 to enter an event ($95 if entering all three events) and entries close on Friday 4 August 2006.

Please note: Thursday 10 and Friday 11 August are weather days
