Double amputee Mark Inglis reaches the top of Mount Everest

So you thought you’ve faced the odd challenge? Double amputee Mark Inglis has made it to the summit of Mount Everest!

The Blenheim man phoned his wife to say he had made it to the top of the world’s highest mountain and had returned to base Camp 4.

Registration Opens! – Around the Bay in a Day Cycle Event

“Around the Bay” is one of the world’s biggest and most popular cycling participation events. On Sunday 15 October, the largest number of cyclists in Australia will get together to challenge themselves, their colleagues, friends and each other in a single day ride around Port Phillip Bay, Melbourne Victoria.

No matter how old you are, what type of bike you ride, or how much riding you’ve done, we invite you to take up the challenge and commit to one of this year’s four ride options:

Based on previous years, entries for Portfolio Partners Around the Bay in a Day® will fill very quickly. To avoid disappointment, please take note of the following key dates – set yourself a reminder and get in early!

10 May-11 May:
Entries exclusively available to Bicycle Victoria and Team Members, to both The Legend 250km and ATB Challenge 210km Rides.
12 May: 250km and 210km entries open to all
15 May: 100km entries open to all
20 May: 42km entries open to all
23 June: 250km, 210km and 100km early entry offer closes

Whats on the Menu for a daily hike?

Before heading off on a hike or bushwalk that will take most of the day, its a good idea to start the day with a good solid breakfast. This will stand you in good stead for the first part of the day. For an overnight stay, have with you a high-energy cereal, muesli or instant oats and long-life or powered milk. This is your breakfast for day two. Remember, on a day or overnight hike, you have the advantage of being able to take perishable items.

A bushwalk in Lane Cove National Park Sydney

On a sunny autumn day a week after Easter my family (Husband & 2 girls and I) visited this stunning but relatively small (670km) National Park. It is situated just 10km north west of Sydney CBD.

There is a small fee of $7.00 (you need to have coins only for the machine) to get into the park and it was worth every cent. As we drove through the gates we were surrounded by great Eucalyptus trees that have seen generations of families visit since early last century.

A Wrap up of the Caravan, Camping, 4WD and Holiday Supershow 2006

It was our first time back at the Caravan, Camping, 4WD and Holiday Supershow for a couple of years so I was excited to see what new products were on offer. The show certainly didn’t disappoint. First let me set the record straight, my main interest at these types of shows is checking out the camping gear and in particular, camper trailers. Although I appreciate and understand the attraction of caravans and motorhomes, I’m not at that stage yet. I’m still holding onto my youth.
